Hector sat on the highest branch of the oak tree that grew right outside his window on his 15th birthday. The afternoon was warm and pleasant. The smell of his step-mother's garden wafted around him, smelling like wishes and dreams. He liked sitting here, watching as the sun set, dreaming colorful dreams. But today was different. His sister Muffet had died a week ago, and he felt the absence tearing at his heart. A single bird sang a melancholy melody high above him before spreading its wings and soaring away. He wished he could fly like that bird.
"Hector! Hector, darling, mind if I join you today? It is a lovely afternoon!"
